Lineage Notes:

Gus is by Hearnesbrook Dunoon, an imported English Connemara stallion, and out of the Welsh mare GlanNant Vela, who’s lineage reads like a history of Welsh breeding.

Born at Mollie Butler’s famous GlanNant Farm in 1982, Vela is a granddaughter of the GlanNant foundation mare Coed Coch Prydyddes, who was imported from Wales in 1959. Prydyddes is a daughter of the important Sec. B foundation stallion Criban Victor, who was born in 1944 and greatly influenced modern welsh breeding.

Prydyddes produced 14 foals including two notable stallions with Legion of Merit sire Cusop Sheriff (who was also a great grandson of Criban Victor). One of these stallions is Vela’s sire GlanNant Ballad, who also sired the 1998 Pony Finals Champion Helicon Touch of Frost. The other stallion is the esteemed GlanNant Limerick. Limerick is the father of Findeln Blue Danube, who in turn sired Gayfields Vida Blue, whose offspring have long dominated the USEF circuit and continue to keep him at the top of the USEF Sire Rankings despite his passing in 2007.

The importance of these bloodlines in the development of the modern Pony Hunter is a lengthy tale, but suffice it to say that Gus’ relatives and predecessors have been winning on the “A” circuit for nearly 3 decades.
